There were separate earthquakes that struck Venezuela, Japan, and California in just 24 hours on Wednesday, leaving behind significant destruction and loss of life.

Two consecutive earthquakes, magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 respectively, struck Near Maiquetía, northern Venezuela, at around 6:15 pm local time on Wednesday. More than 165 people were killed, including while other residents evacuated, CBN News reported.

Acting President Delcy Rodriguez addressed the nation, encouraging people to remain calm, and announced that schools would be closed for several days.

She also commended U.S. President Trump for his pledge to help with aid to Venezuela. Additional countries also pledged support, including Israel.

“The two major earthquakes that just hit the great people of Venezuela are both massive in scale and have left a devastating number of deaths. The U.S.A. stands ready, willing, and able to help! I have instructed all agencies of our government to get ready to move quickly. We will be there for our new and great friends. Early reports are not good!!!“ Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform late Wednesday night.

Meanwhile, some residents in a rural area of Northern California were injured from a 5.6 quake, which was considered the strongest quake since 1940.

Speaking to The Associated Press, California Seismologist Lucy Jones noted that the area is not on a major fault line.

“The area is not without earthquakes, but they’re usually smaller than this,” Jones said. She predicted there would be aftershocks, but "they'll probably stay on the low side."

Over in Japan, there was a 7.2 magnitude earthquake as the region experienced strong tremors in the past several months, as well as one advisory for a possible mega-quake. Nevertheless, there was not a tsunami warning.

According to Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, there would be emergency preparations for relief operations, and she advised against aftershocks.
