Ezra Worship on Worship, Theology & Their New ‘Great and Glorious God’ EP

Ezra Worship Initiative is raising up the next generation of worship leaders with a focus on sound theology, strong musicianship, servant leadership, and a deep love for the local church.

In this interview, Brandon Woolum sits down with Ezra Worship Initiative founder and director George Godwin, along with Ezra Worship members Alyssa Campbell and William Stewart, to talk about their new four-song EP, Great and Glorious God, and the heart behind their unique ministry.

The group shares how the project came together through Ezra’s songwriting program and their collaboration with the Calvin University Gospel Choir, whose diverse voices and gospel influence helped bring a new depth and energy to the songs.

They also discuss the songwriting process behind songs including “Praise Upon Praise” and “Faithful Through It All,” why lament and other often-overlooked themes belong in congregational worship, and how Ezra encourages young writers to create music that serves the Church rather than simply showcasing their own talents.

George explains why Ezra Worship Initiative trains students in much more than music—including theology, leadership, audio technology, and practical ministry skills—and how the program prepares worship leaders to serve both full-time and bi-vocationally.
