“The 2024 60-Day Florida Regular Session Begins”

Bill Bunkley’s “This Is Something to Think About”

Air Date Tuesday, January 9, 2024

Governor DeSantis is back in Florida today as the Florida Legislature begins the 60-day 2024 regular legislative session. A hallmark of day one is the Governor’s State of the State Address to a joint session of the legislature.

The Florida Constitution only requires one item to be completed each annual session: an yearly budget. And unlike the runaway deficit spending of the President and the U. S. Congress, our state constitution requires an annual balanced budget.

As last year, the Republicans are in complete control. They have control over the Governor’s office, the Cabinet posts, the House Speaker and Senate President, and a supermajority in both the Florida House and Senate.

That means Republicans can pass whatever they wish to pass; Democrats are powerless to stop them.

I’ll keep you posted on the Republican game plan.
