When the Florida House of Representatives got down to business considering the first bill of 2018, it was clear what is House Speaker Richard Corcoran’s number one priority: HB 9Federal Immigration Enforcement AKA the” Sanctuary Cities” bill.
Just after the lunch hour on day three of the session, chief sponsor of the “Sanctuary Cities” legislation Representative Larry Metz stood to get things rolling.
Standing next to his chamber seat, the Groveland representative began the long and rigorous process of introducing the bill, followed by hours of questioning by members opposed to the banning of sanctuary cities.
The argumentative back and forth exchange represents an age-old dance necessary to advance tough legislation through the legislative process.
And as such, we have officially marked the beginning of yet another installment of a Florida Legislative Session.
