“The Impeachment Trial: A Very Solemn Proceeding”

Bill Bunkley with Something to Think About

The historic impeachment trial of President Donald John Trump gets underway in earnest in the United States Senate. The sworn jury of United States Senators, with Chief Supreme Court Justice John Roberts presiding, begins today at 1:00 P.M.

The first two days will see marathon sessions of twelve hours each, wrapping up at 1:00 A.M.

Per the Constitution, it is a very solemn proceeding.

All Senators must remain in their seats during the entire trial. They cannot talk amongst themselves. They may not bring in cell phones or other electronic devices. They are to pay attention to every word spoken, to every piece of evidence presented.

It is a sight not often witnessed in either chamber.

It is about removing the duly elected President of the United States.
