It was a money grabbing proposal in 2010, and it’s still dangerous public policy today. The culprit: Red Light Cameras.
The Florida House Transportation & Infrastructure Subcommittee cast a strong 12 – 1 vote to repeal red light cameras. If it becomes law, HB 6003 will be named the Mark Wandall act for a Bradenton resident killed by a red light camera runner.
A similar repeal sailed through the House last year, but the Florida Senate stood idle.
The law has nothing to do with safety, but to collect additional revenue for local governments.
How many times have you watched someone slam on the brakes when the yellow pops up at a red light camera intersection? And if it’s raining and you can’t stop safely, you’ll ALWAYS be denied a break on appeal.
It’s bad policy, time to repeal.
