Bill Bunkley with Something to Think About
In a breathtaking rejection of Governor Ron DeSantis's order for a Special Legislative Session on immigration, condominiums, and citizen-led proposed constitutional amendments, the Florida House of Representatives and Florida Senate immediately rejected and closed the session.
With two years left to his term, a shift in the relationship between DeSantis and the legislature is unfolding.
Both sides have been going at it behind the scenes for two weeks, with lawmakers rejecting the DeSantis special session.
Both chambers will formulate their own immigration legislation, following President Trump’s package and rejecting DeSantis’s more aggressive provisions.
There’s talk of removing immigration enforcement from DeSantis and reassigning those duties to Agricultural Commissioner Wilton Simpson.
My friends, a Florida battle royal has begun.
