The Suncoast Parkway linking the Veterans Expressway in Tampa north to Highway 98 outside Brooksville is referred to as the road to nowhere.
Completing the Parkway northward has been opposed by residents who fear it will bring more subdivisions, disrupting the “nature coast” environment of farms and quiet communities.
The status is probably going to change.
Florida Senate President Bill Galvano announced completing the Parkway to the Georgia line a priority.
The most obvious reason would be to provide another exit route out of Central Florida during a hurricane evacuation. Galvano would also build a highway connecting Polk County to southwest Florida and extend the Turnpike north from Wildwood to the Parkway.
I support Galvano’s plan for the Parkway. It’s a project long overdue.
