The Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Finance and Tax approved a 90-page gambling rewrite Monday that was revealed last Friday afternoon.

Pro-gambling legislators want to beat voters to the polls in November who will decide the “Voter Control of Gambling in Florida” Constitutional Amendment 3. Current support of Amendment 3 is more than 70%.

Senate Bill 840 would extend the Seminole Indian Gaming Compact for 20 years. 

It declares Fantasy Sports a nongaming activity, providing no regulatory oversight.

Pari-mutuels would no longer be required to run live events, freeing their locations to become neighborhood casinos.

I and many others voiced our opposition to this gambling expansion. 

Ultimately, it will be up to House Speaker Richard Corcoran and his chamber to hold the line on the Senate’s bold moves, until voters get to the polls in November.
