“Who Gets to Oversee Illegal Immigration Enforcement in Florida”
Bill Bunkley’s “This Is Something to Think About”
Air Date Thursday, February 13, 2025
So, who is going to oversee protecting Floridians from illegal immigration?
Governor DeSantis suggested himself in his Special Session # 1 call.
In their Special Session # 2 call, the legislature decided that Agriculture Commissioner Wilton Simpson, not the governor, would be in charge.
So, now, in Special Session # 3, a compromise is being put forth on the leadership issue, providing that the Governor, Agriculture Commissioner, Attorney General, and Chief Financial Officer will make up a “State Board of Immigration Enforcement.”
The board will match the state’s immigration enforcement with the federal government. All actions require a unanimous vote.
The board will be advised by a “State Immigration Enforcement Council” of law enforcement officials from local, county, and state agencies.
It will be immigration enforcement by committee.
