It’s time to rein in the Florida Lottery. House Speaker Richard Corcoran has filed a lawsuit to do just that.
Lottery officials, without legislative authority, inked a deal with IGT Global Solutions, a provider of lottery terminals, estimated to be about $17 million over what the Legislature budgeted!
The lawsuit states “The Lottery, and any other agency for that matter does not have the right to obligate the taxpayers of Florida even a penny beyond what the people’s elected Representatives say they can.” “Florida law governing the budgeting process expressly prohibits agencies from doing just this.” “By doing so, the law protects against executive agencies trying to force the Legislature’s hand in the budgeting process. It also protects against agencies unleashing the lobbyists of private vendors to interfere with that process.”
