Last Tuesday night in Tallahassee, it was a typical quiet evening at my hotel when I turned in for the night.
At 11:32 PM, my cell phone alerted me to a late-night text. As I reached to the nightstand to make sure everything was ok back home, I saw the words Florida Blue Alert. It frantically kept texting me over and over again to warn me about an immediate threat.

Seventy-four miles southwest of Tallahassee in the town of Salem, a sheriff’s deputy had been shot, airlifted to a hospital.
I lay wondering if the cop shooter was headed to Tallahassee.
I also thought about other law enforcement officers who sprang into action while I was safely in bed.
Thank God for the men and women in Blue, running towards danger to keep us safe.
