“Riding That Candle”

If you have lived here in central Florida, you have probably been thrilled to see one of the manned space flights originating at the Kennedy Space Center. I have watched the launches since I was a young kid in Tampa.

Today the launches don’t get the attention as in the early years of the Gemini, Apollo, or Space Shuttle flights. There was a time not so long ago when the NASA budget cuts limited launches to the change out of crews on the Space Station.

But Elon Musk changed that paradigm by developing the privatized manned flights of Space X and Dragon.

So, when I ventured outside to see the early Thursday morning launch of Crew 6, it was as spectacular a sight in the clear night sky as I ever remember as a kid.

It never gets old watching astronauts riding that high-powered candle right off into outer space.

Bill Bunkley is a 17-year veteran Salem Media talk show host based in Tampa. The Bill Bunkley Show airs weekdays across central Florida from 3 to 6 pm.
