“Governor DeSantis’ State of the State”

Bill Bunkley’s “This Is Something to Think About”

Air Date Wednesday, March 5, 2025

At the start of the annual 60-day Legislative Session, the Governor must officially update the legislature regarding the previous year and notify of any changes to the Executive branch for the coming year by order of the Florida State Constitution, Article IV Section 1, Subsection e. The other notable constitutional requirement is that the legislature pass a balanced annual budget.

DeSantis State of the State touted immigration reform that has been implemented. He proposes insurance reform with rate reductions for homes and autos, creating a Florida DOGE, and repealing the Business Rent Tax. He proposes tax-free holidays for back-to-school, Freedom Summer for recreational items, a Tool Time holiday, a boating fuel tax holiday, and a Second Amendment tax holiday for guns and ammo.

We’ll see what the legislature thinks about his list.
