“Should Libraries Have Kid-Safe Zones”
Have you ever dropped off your son or daughter at the public library to work on their latest school project? Have you ever wondered what content they may be getting into besides researching that science project?
Well, one Hillsborough County Commissioner, Michael Owen, wants parents to feel secure about what their kids are reading at the library.
He has proposed a plan whereby a parent can block access to inappropriate material at the library by having an “adult-only section” for books dealing with sexuality.
Commissioner Owen also calls for the Hillsborough County Library to drop its affiliation with the American Library Association, as that group is hostile to sensible restrictions.
If pornographic magazines are covered up behind a convenience store counter, why isn’t the same policy for our public libraries?
