After two final days of emotional, at times very personal, sharp interaction among Florida State Senators, HB 1557 Parental Rights in Education bill saw final passage by a vote of 22-17.
Governor DeSantis will sign the legislation.
There are reported instances of school administrators, counselors, and teachers in Florida not disclosing and keeping parents in the loop on children’s textbooks, curriculum, lesson plans, and health issues.
Parents are told they must get their children’s ok to disclose BEFORE school officials will discuss conversations they have with their children.
That’s nonsense.
In rare cases, school officials may opt not to communicate with a parent if doing so would put the child in danger.
Parents are responsible for raising their children, not the government.
They have a right to know.
