Today the Florida House Health Quality Subcommittee will hear a bill, not new to the legislature, one that passed years ago.
HB 1335 and Senate Bill 558 requires a physician seeking to perform a minor’s abortion to obtain a notarized document consenting to the termination of the minor’s pregnancy.
A judicial consent bypass is included if a medical emergency is present or a judge deems informing the parents or guardian puts the minor in harm.
A watered down version of notification exists in Florida statutes that abortion providers work around with support from sympatric judges.
The updated notification bill has tougher felony sanctions for noncompliant abortion doctors and closes loopholes clinics currently employ.
