The Florida House Health Quality Subcommittee took up HB 1397 Medical Use of Marijuana by Majority Leader Ray Rodriquez (R) from Estero. Since the passage last November of Amendment 2, lawmakers have been tasked to consider the many intended and unintended consequences of implementing medical marijuana.
For those Floridians expecting to get an easily access Medical Marijuana ID card, lots of neighborhood dispensaries, unlimited supply of joints, marijuana-laced brownies, gummy bears, cotton candy and frozen pops, the House bill will not make them happy.
Only terminality certified patients would qualify for the right to smoke marijuana.
Even advertising for medical marijuana would be strictly regulated.
I think the Florida House has taken the right approach toward implementation.
But rest assured, no matter what plan the legislature and governor finally embrace, judges in black robes will have the final say.
