Another year of the historic Florida Grapefruit League is over and all across America baseball fans will hear the familiar proclamation “Playball.”
Our Tampa Bay Rays open at home at Tropicana Field against divisional rivals the Boston Red Sox. Not since 1968 have all 30 major league teams played on opening day.
It’s time to see how manager Kevin Cash and company adjust to the offseason trades of Evan Longoria and others as they battle for supremacy in the American League East.
Opening day is a sellout for the Trop, but the other big storyline will be struggling attendance numbers backdropped against the question of whether the Rays will pull off their move to Ybor City and a new ballpark.
Hopefully, we’ll witness a local Ray’s “Opening Day” for many decades to come.
