“Defending Our Family Friendly/Tourist Friendly State”
Bill Bunkley with Today’s Something To Think About
“Lookalike” slot machines are popping up overnight in drinking establishments across Florida, and a single Tallahassee judge just gave those lookalikes the green light to operate.
Add to that a Seminole Indian demand letter putting the state on notice that if those “lookalike” slots are not shut down, it will constitute a breach of the Seminole Gaming Compact that could cost the state $120 million in revenue annually.
That got the legislature’s attention.
Looking at the big picture, Senate leadership is pushing a massive gambling expansion; House leadership wants no expansion.
Both chambers will square off on the controversial issue in a joint conference committee.
I say make the “lookalike” slots illegal and hold to the House position of no further gambling expansion that will put our Florida branding at risk of being a family friendly, tourist friendly state.
