“America Returns to the Moon…Kind Of”

Bill Bunkley’s “This Is Something to Think About”

Air Date Wednesday, April 1, 2026

If all goes according to plan today, with technology and weather cooperating, America renews its quest to send humans to the moon, kind of.

Picking up where NASA’s Apollo moon missions ended 53 years ago with Apollo 17, the spacecraft Artemis II will launch today with four brave astronauts from Launch Complex 39B at Florida’s Kennedy Space Center. This first mission back to the moon calls for orbiting the moon but not landing.

I’m thrilled about the United States returning to the moon. I grew up a space kid, following all the missions of Project Mercury, Gemini, Apollo, Skylab, Space Shuttle, and now Artemis.

In Greek mythology, Artemis is the goddess of the moon and the twin sister of Apollo. So, fitting.

Today is the moon, tomorrow is Mars.
