Yesterday the Senate Health Policy committee took up SB 1774 Parental Consent for Abortion Act by Polk County Republican Senator Kelli Stargel. It is a bill I support.
The legislation would tighten up the current Florida state statue dealing with Parental notification.
In this bill an abortion doctor must be presented a properly completed consent form -signed by the parents or guardians of a minor child. Failure by the doctor to comply with the consent requirements would result in felony criminal charges. There is a medical emergency bypass and the child can petition a circuit court to bypass the consent provision.
The bill drew a large crowd wishing to testify. After hearing all the testimony the Senate panel approved the bill. Its next committee stop is the Judiciary Committee.
