 “T-Minus Three Weeks and Counting” 

I’m Bill Bunkley with Something To Think About.

Florida Legislature is now on the downhill slide as three weeks is all that remains until the regular session ends on May 5^th.

It’s all about the money and the multi-dimensional, three-way chess match between House Speaker Richard Corcoran, Senate President Joe Negron and the veto pen of Governor Rick Scott.

Depending on whose assessment you choose, the House and Senate budgets are $2 to $4 billion apart; that’s “B” for billion.

Legislative staffers have been on alert all session that their summer vacation schedules would be impacted if budget negotiations extended past May 5^th. 

But Speaker Corcoran recently commented that “collegiality” in the state Capitol makes him think those budget differences will be hammered out and the legislature will wrap up the session on time by May 5th.

And that assessment makes a lot of people very hopeful.
