Developments in our food chain due to COVID-19 are in the headlines.
First, farmers, beef, and dairy farmers are having to dump enormous qualities of food because shuttered restaurants are not ordering their products. The FDA should temporarily lower their standards of usage while keeping our food safe and allow surplus food products that are safe to be shipped to churches and food banks desperate for donations.
Second, some of our meat processing plants have closed due to a large percentage of employees testing positive for COVID-19. Federal strike teams like those sent to monitor nursing homes should be deployed to the plants implementing protocols to get those workers back to health and oversee site protection standards while employing proper PPE going forward.
