"Florida Gambling Expansion Is Dead, For Now"

There will be no expansion of gambling in the state of Florida in 2017. Negotiations in Tallahassee between the Florida House and Senate have resulted in a deadlock between the two chambers.

That’s not to say that a gambling case that has been pending before the Florida Supreme Court for the last 11 months on the question of whether a quarter horse racing track in Gretna can unilaterally install slot machines, because the small struggling Florida panhandle town of the same name approved them in a 2012 local referendum.

In addition to the Seminole Tribe, only Miami-Dade and Broward counties have the right to operate slot machines as approved by all Florida voters.

I have opposed state sanctioned gambling expansion for decades and am very pleased that the Florida House held to their stated position of opposing and Florida expanded gambling.
