 "America’s National Day of Prayer"

 I’m Bill Bunkley with Something To Think About.

Today is America’s National Day of Prayer.

The official National Day of Prayer began in 1952 by a joint resolution by the United States Congress, approved by President Harry Truman.

The first national call to prayer was in 1775, when the Continental Congress called upon the colonies to pray for wisdom as they set out to chart the course of the new nation.

For both Christians and Jews God’s Old Testament declaration in 2 Chronicles 2:14 is a promise of what will happen if a nation follows His admonition: "if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land."

This is God’s most important charge to the nation’s leaders.
