We have been following the COVID-19 news about both federal and Florida’s reemployment, or for those of us who have been around a while; we call it unemployment.

First, it was a mountain of applicants desperately trying to get through the process to obtain some financial assistance.

Now we hear people are getting back to work and find they cannot discontinue or stop those benefits. They either are told by inexperienced call center staffers they don’t know how to stop the payments or are given different contact numbers that also can’t help them.

So, the benefit money keeps rolling, and I hope they know that one day they’ll have to pay back the excess.

The Reemployment ATM will be yet another part of the head-scratching saga of COVID-19 in America.

Bill Bunkley is a 14-year veteran Salem Radio Network talk show host based in west-central Florida, airing weekdays 3 to 6 PM. Bill is also President of the Florida Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission, which serves as legislative consultant to the Florida Baptist State Convention (Southern Baptist Churches throughout Florida), among other churches and entities.
