U.S. Senator John Kennedy of Louisiana is one of my favorite members of Congress. His old-fashioned southern drawl and hilarious yet true illustrations that describe all that is bad in politics and people are always spot on.

If you must testify to one of his committees, you'd better come ready for a thorough cross-examination by a very gifted old southern lawyer.

But it’s Kennedy’s latest common-sense issue that got my attention. You see, Kennedy doesn’t think members of Congress should get paid when the government is shut down.

I agree.

As a result of Kennedy’s persistence, the Senate just passed a resolution not to pay itself during a federal government shutdown.

The same pain felt by federal workers will now be felt by Senators who aren’t millionaires.
