“Southern Baptist Convention Receives Crushing Report”

A long-awaited report was released concerning an ongoing effort spanning 20 years by Southern Baptist Convention Executive Committee leaders not to investigate sexual abuse allegations.

Guidepost Solutions investigated the SBC Executive Committee’s actions from January 2000 to June 2021.

An individual of the SBC Executive Committee staff was found routinely to have failed to respond to reports of abuse and blocked investigations. He did not report these allegations to the entire SBC trustees.

As a Southern Baptist, I am appalled.

I’m an Eagle Scout and was a member of the Boy Scouts of America as a youth and adult leader until their moral departure from Biblical moral values and similar sex abuse issues.

I am praying for everyone who has been abused by those who should have protected them.  

Bill Bunkley is a 16-year veteran Salem Radio talk show host based in west-central /Florida, airing weekdays 3 to 6 pm. Bill is also President of the Florida Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission, which serves as legislative consultant to the Florida Baptist State Convention (Southern Baptist Churches throughout Florida), among other churches and entities. He has served as legislative consultant to the Convention for the last 26 years at the state capitol in Tallahassee. By the Grace of his Lord Jesus, he is a cancer survivor diagnosed in 2018 with AML Leukemia, having successfully undergone a bone marrow transplant that same year.
