“Hurricane Supplies Tax Free Days to be Delayed or Canceled”
Bill Bunkley’s “This Is Something to Think About”
Air Date Thursday, May 29, 2025
This time last year, Florida residents were finalizing their hurricane supply purchase list in anticipation of the June 1st Disaster Preparedness Sales Tax Holidays. It was one of two periods of hurricane sales tax holidays in 2024.
This year, thanks to the Florida legislature, there are no sales tax holidays currently scheduled for any of the holidays included in Governor DeSantis' budget.
The question is, whenever the Florida Senate and House agree on an annual budget and the Governor signs it into law, will a hurricane sales tax holiday be included or canceled altogether?
It, along with other sales tax holidays, is wrapped in the budget tax reform controversy, primarily between Florida House Speaker Daniel Perez and Governor DeSantis.
Any proposal with the Governor’s is persona non grata in the House.
Floridians need the sales tax holiday.
