At 7:24 a routine Tuesday evening at Orlando’s International Airport turned into anything but routine: a man wielding a gun in the rental car area.
Fresh off the horrible massacre in Manchester, England, and the stabbings on a Portland, Oregon train, as well as their own Pulse nightclub attack, was Orlando International next?
That was on the minds of law enforcement officers as they converged on the airport. Aerial video showed an unbroken ring of flashing police lights surrounding the airport like a string of lights on a Christmas tree.
This time it was a recently serving Marine with a fake gun in need of help. Thanks to negotiators, he’ll get that help.
Years of multi-agency law enforcement planning and preparation for securing the major transportation hub of Orlando’s top global tourist attractions paid off.
And that’s a job well done.
