“Heads Up Florida the Dust is Coming”

If you live in Florida and notice an unusual haze in the skies above, don’t panic, it’s not the beginning of the end of the world.

Sunrises and sunsets are going to be a bit more colorful and brilliant.

The cause of the phenomenon is dust that originates from the Saharan desert in Africa. Weather conditions allow the fine desert dust to be lifted like a conveyor belt and distributed in the atmosphere.

Prevailing winds off the African coast carry the dust westward across the Atlantic to the Florida Peninsula.

As the dust flows across the Atlantic, it tamps down the ability for hurricanes to form. When the dust settles across the state, it serves as a mineral-packed fertilizer. The temperature will increase, and if you have allergies, it may be best to stay indoors.
