The 2024 hurricane season, which began on June 1st, began on a slow note, given last year’s start with no disturbances of record, providing a false sense of safety and security.

Today, only a few areas hold the promise of future development.

But we veteran Floridians know you don’t have to have an official tropical storm or hurricane, watch or warning, to drop our guard down.

Tropical disturbances quickly develop in the Gulf of Mexico in the month of June.  

I’m sure many surprised South Florida newcomers are lamenting the devastating torrential rains still coming in like a conveyor belt. These rains are causing unexpected widespread flooding, prompting Governor DeSantis to declare a state of emergency.

Living in Florida is great, but there are days when the Sunshine State isn’t so sunny.

Always keep an eye on the weather and be prepared.
