“No Casinos Takes Its Seminole Indian Compact Opposition to the Feds”
Bill Bunkley with Something to Think About
Governor DeSantis, along with Senate President Wilton Simpson and House Speaker Chris Sprowls, awarded the Seminole Tribe a substantial financial win with a new gambling compact.
But the deal has more hurdles to clear.
No Casinos is making good on a promise to oppose this unlawful expansion of gambling at every step.
The first step taken by No Casinos is to ask the Department of Interior to reject the deal under the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act, arguing the agreement violates state and federal law. If the Feds approve it, No Casinos will sue to stop it.
The Florida Constitution calls for VOTER approval of any gambling expansion.
But the Seminoles' slick “Sleight of Hand” attempt to expand sports betting without voter approval certainly merits to be dead on arrival.
