The disgraceful act of tearing down our historical monuments must come to an end.

Just because you don’t agree with the visual or written message of a monument does not give you a right to take it down. In a civilized culture, there is a way to petition your government peacefully if you want to make a change.

Finally, President Trump has announced that those who will attempt to tear down a monument will face federal criminal prosecution. He has also said that he will issue an executive order to that extent, but the defacing crime is already on the books.

The only question will be if some jurisdictions who have elected to allow the violent protestors to run wild will stand between the monuments and the mobs.

Sadly, it never should have gotten to this point in this country.
