“And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes, and our sacred Honor.”
With these words from the Declaration of Independence, 56 patriots put it all on the line for freedom as they understood it from the Holy Bible.
They were lawyers, a doctor, a surgeon, ministers of the Gospel of Jesus, farmers, sheriffs, printer, publisher, scientist, surveyor, judges, tax collector, customs collector, mercantile owner, carpenter, architect, author, inventor, shipowner, plantation owner, poet and college president.
The struggle for Independence is not over. Many no longer share the Founder’s vision. They gave us a grand Republic if we can keep it.

Bill Bunkley is a 15-year veteran Salem Radio talk show host based in west-central /Florida, airing weekdays 3 to 6 pm. Bill is also President of the Florida Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission, which serves as legislative consultant to the Florida Baptist State Convention (Southern Baptist Churches throughout Florida), among other churches and entities. He has served as legislative consultant to the Convention for the last 24 years at the state capitol in Tallahassee.
