“A Parent’s Worst Nightmare”
Bill Bunkley’s “This Is Something to Think About”
Air Date Tuesday, July 8, 2025
While much of the country was sleeping on the 249th celebration of the Declaration of Independence, the most horrific night for any parent unfolded in 45 minutes.
At Camp Mystic, along the Guadalupe River in Texas, 750 summer campers were asleep in their cabins or dorms. In the dead of night, a flash flood struck, rising 26 feet in just 45 minutes.
In 45 minutes, many children and counselors were swept away, especially the 8-year-old girls whose cabin was along the riverbank.
A parent’s worst nightmare.
All told, 90+ people have died because of the flood in that region as I record this commentary.
Millions are asking why this happened.
A timelier question is how we can support these grieving families and survivors.
By praying for God’s comfort for the parents and all who are affected. By giving to the relief agencies on the front lines.
