We just experienced a week where patriotism and the red, white and blue were prominently on display all across America. But things we see on the surface are not reflecting the reality that lies below.                            

Are we still proud to be American? Not so much so.

Gallup reports that only 45% are extremely proud to be American. That’s the lowest number in 18 years, going back to 2001.

Many blame social media and the ensuing hyper polarization of America for the low number.

Bashing anything American is a pastime for many in our country.

Few of the young have an appreciation for the cost of their freedom and opportunities. The older generations wonder if their contributions to maintain our freedom will soon fade away.

And even Lee Greenwood’s signature song is having a rough go in certain circles.
