“Senator McCain: I’ve Been Through Worse”
Bill Bunkley with Something To Think About
I was driving home from St. Pete Beach when I learned news about Senator John McCain.
The Senator has a very aggressive form of brain cancer, glioblastoma. It’s the same cancer that claimed Senator Ted Kennedy’s life.
John McCain has found himself incarcerated again; this time by cancer.
The son and grandson of two four-star admirals, the U. S. Naval Academy graduate survived the 1967 USS Forrestal Aircraft Carrier fire as a naval aviator. That same year he was shot down bombing Hanoi. Captured by the North Vietnamese, McCain was imprisoned and tortured at the infamous “Hanoi Hilton” until his release in 1973. Although offered an early released because of his family’s military distinctions, McCain refused to leave his fellow prisoners behind.
Typical of his dry wit, when discussing his diagnosis with Senator Lindsay Graham, he quipped he’s “been through worse.”
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Senator McCain.
