After 60 years of communist domination, the people of Cuba are once again rising up demanding democratic freedom.
The tiny Caribbean nation just 90 miles south of Key West has many family ties to our area: both in Ybor City and West Tampa.
Long before the communist at heart Fidel Castro and his band of so-called revolutionaries overthrew the government of Fulgencio Batista in 1959, Cuban immigrants were thriving here in the cigar business.
I grew up among many Cuban-American families here and can attest to the generational pain they have suffered these so many years after Castro.
It’s past time for the Cuban people to be freed from the oppression of Communism.
President Biden should mobilize every tool available to bring about a free Cuba finally.
The time to act is now.
