“Tampa Hit New All-Time Record of 100°F”
Bill Bunkley’s “This Is Something to Think About”
Air Date Tuesday, July 28, 2025
On Sunday, at mid-afternoon, Tampa experienced an all-time record high of 100°F. That record goes back 135 years to when temperature records were first being recorded.
A high-pressure heat dome has been hovering over the southeastern United States, including Florida, for days. Heat advisories have been issued daily, warning of the increased health risks associated with the high temperatures.
Being close to the west coast of Florida, the sea breeze coming off the Gulf of America usually makes it very difficult for Tampa temperatures to exceed 100°F. But on days when afternoon thunderstorms fail to materialize to cool off the temps, we get intense heat.
By Thursday, the heat dome is expected to shift west, providing a break from the extreme heat conditions.
In Florida, always avoid harmful sun exposure and stay hydrated with plenty of water.
