“Hurricane Revision Update”
Bill Bunkley’s “This Is Something to Think About
Air Date Friday, August 6, 2026
It’s been a very quiet hurricane season for 2026 so far. A combination of Saharan dust that acts like a clothes dryer in the atmosphere, creating wind shear, water temperatures, and the stronger-than-normal El Niño are working in tandem.
Colorado State University updated its 2026 hurricane forecast, calling for well-below-average hurricanes coming in off the Atlantic.
Their new update calls for only nine named storms, four hurricanes, and one major hurricane. An average season sees 14 named storms, seven hurricanes, and three major hurricanes.
This is good news for now.
One major hurricane making landfall can still be devastating. And all the heavy thunderstorms that have occurred over Florida are indicative of the immense atmospheric energy courtesy of El Niño.
Stay prepared.
