Much has been speculated about the “5 minutes” the Treasury 10 year note rate slipped below the 2 year, an inversion. The national debate about a recession on the horizon was triggered by a 5 minute event.
If the 5 minute inversion signaled an approaching recession, history says it will arrive in the next 10 to 18 months.
That puts a recession arriving sometime next June thru January, dangerously paralleling the time Americans will vote for our next President.
No one knows the risks of a pre-election recession better than Team Trump, because a voter’s first priority is their pocketbook.
If next fall President Trump presides over a strong, record employment economy, the wind will be at his back. If not, it could be tough sledding.
Don’t dismiss the old adage, “It’s the economy stupid.”
