I pay tribute today to former Republican State Senator Greg Evers: a gentleman farmer from the Panhandle who served in both the Florida House and Senate.
He was a well-liked, rare statesman in every sense of the word.
If you watched Senator Evers in action, you knew he embodied the rural generations of folks who lived here long before outsiders discovered our fine state.
He was just like his constituents: a staunch supporter of life, traditional marriage, and of course the 2nd Amendment.
He went home to be with his Lord a few nights ago when his truck veered off a curve 1 ½ miles from his home and crashed through a guard rail into a deep creek. He was 62.
He will be greatly missed, and I assure you he is one public servant who leaves many admirers, no matter their political orientation.
