“The Wakeup Calls of Hurricane Harvey”
Bill Bunkley with Something To Think About
Manatee County’s Center Lakes subdivision caught the brunt of our local record setting rainfall and flooding.
Hopefully, after a survey is complete from the Florida Division of Emergency Management, Center Lakes’ residents can qualify to receive state or federal relief to help repair their homes.
Unfortunately, John Holliday was renting in the submerged subdivision and found out that his renter’s insurance policy didn’t cover flood damage.
In fact, if you have a basic homeowners policy, you also are not covered for flood damage. Both renters and homeowners must secure a separate flood policy to be covered.
Flood insurance is relatively inexpensive especially if you are not in an area close to a water way or the Gulf.
Hurricane Harvey in many respects was a wakeup call for us here in Florida, and maybe securing flood coverage is a big wakeup call for you.
