“Florida Department of Transportation Orders Removal of Flock Cameras”

Bill Bunkley’s “This Is Something to Think About

Air Date Wednesday, September 2, 2026

The Florida Department of Transportation has revoked all statewide permits for license plate readers known as Flock Cameras.

In a DOT memo, they cite “Exponential increase in deployments coupled with concerning reports of misuse, data privacy concerns and surveillance schemes, require immediate action.” The window for removal is within 30 days, when all Flock cameras must be gone from state roads.

The number one abuser of Flock Camera data has been members of law enforcement agencies. They used the data for unauthorized personal purposes for spying on people they knew.

Any law enforcement department requesting new Flock Cameras will be denied.

We have already allowed too many violations of our personal privacy rights, and more areas of violation should be uncovered and eliminated.
