As we pray today for Hurricane Dorian to lift north clear of the Florida east coast, our prayers are also focused on the survivors, family and friends of both the missing and deceased Bahamians.
Although Dorian’s strength has diminished since her battering of Abaco as a Category 5 Hurricane, boasting top sustained winds of 185 mph with gusts to 225. Her prolonged stall over Grand Bahama Island and the feeder bands that slammed into Nassau indicate we’ll soon see scenes of utter devastation.
An eyewitness said “Paradise” has been lost. Houses flooded to the second floor. Roofs gone. Families surviving in their attics. 13,000 homes in Abaco have been damaged.
Though feelings of relief are lifting us up today, let’s not forget those who awoke this day so much less fortunate.
