“Future of Abortion in Florida”

Tomorrow, the future of abortion in Florida will get a hearing before the Florida Supreme Court.

The 15-week abortion ban passed in 2022 is being challenged by Planned Parenthood of Southwest and Central Florida. This year's 6-week abortion ban is on hold until the finding of this appeal is rendered.

What's at stake is the interpretation of Florida's extreme right to privacy provision in our state constitution.

In 1980, the intent of the right to privacy was added to the Florida Constitution to protect citizen's privacy from developing computer technology.

Over time, the liberal-dominated Florida Supreme Court expanded its provisions to apply to abortions and other far-afield applications.

Florida's new conservative court may overturn the liberal interpretation of privacy, clearing the way for abortion bans to be legal in Florida.

Bill Bunkley is a 17-year veteran Salem Media talk show host based in Tampa. The Bill Bunkley Show airs weekdays across central Florida from 3 to 6 pm. Bill is also President of the Florida Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission, which serves as the legislative consultant to the Florida Baptist State Convention (Southern Baptist Convention Churches), among other churches and entities. He has served as the legislative consultant to the Florida Baptist State Convention for the last 27 years at the state capitol in Tallahassee. By the Grace of his Lord Jesus, he is today a cancer survivor diagnosed in 2018 with AML Leukemia, having successfully undergone a bone marrow transplant that same year. His wife is Toni, son is Zac, and they attend Idlewild Baptist Church.
