“Florida Supreme Court Hears Abortion Appeal”
The Florida Supreme Court heard oral arguments from Planned Parenthood of Florida and lawyers representing the state regarding pro-abortion advocate’s claim the 15-week abortion ban is unconstitutional under Florida’s right-to-privacy provision.
The outcome of the decision will decide the future of abortion in Florida. Suppose the court upholds the belief that the state constitution’s right-to-privacy provision was wrong to apply to abortions. In that case, the most recently passed 6-week abortion ban will become law 30 days after the court’s decision is made public.
One should never speculate on the outcome of a court hearing. But as I tracked the questioning by the justices to both sides, the justices may be ready to narrow the scope of the right to privacy.
And that would be a remarkable outcome for Florida’s unborn.
