“Reality Check: The Price Tag of Irma”

As the harsh reality becomes clear of what the future will hold, or not hold, for those Floridians still affected or completely displaced by Hurricane Irma, the costs of Irma are coming into view.
On the Federal level, FEMA tabs in both Texas and Florida will blow out plans for deficit reduction. And that’s before Hurricane Marie, and only God knows how many other cyclones will hit U. S. interests this year.
At the state level House Speaker Richard Corcoran sounded the alarm to his members for both a porkless 2018 budget and a select committee to consider Irma’s impact.
And to that, probable premium increases for Floridian’s homeowners and renter’s insurance, including the possibility that Citizens Insurance, the state’s official insurer of last resort, may surcharge all Florida insurance companies for excessive losses.
Clearly our next reality check will be Irma’s price tag.
